Down the Drain

My brand new titanium yo-yo rolled down a storm drain on the way to school pickup. What followed was not the afternoon I had planned, but it did involve a surprisingly great conversation about PVD coating.

Down the Drain

Ready for a funny story?

It didn't start that way.

There I was, walking to pick up my youngest from school, throwing my brand new Demon's Fun when disaster struck. The string broke, and my shiny new titanium throw rolled and rolled and rolled… right down a storm drain.

I could see it sitting there, but the grate was just really stuck.

So I called Public Works. They're actually coming out to open the drain and retrieve it, and the only reason they agreed is that the guy on the phone used to work with titanium. He got genuinely curious about a PVD-coated titanium yo-yo, since he'd done anodizing, powder coating, and Cerakoting, but had never seen PVD in person.

We ended up nerding out about titanium together over the phone.

I should have it back tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed.
